Tongkat Ali (Longjack) for Energy And Fatigue

Moderate evidence 9 studies

Research suggests that Tongkat Ali may help reduce fatigue-related markers such as cortisol levels and support subjective feelings of energy and mood, with one small randomized placebo-controlled study finding reductions in stress hormones and improvements in tension, anger, and confusion in moderately stressed adults. Studies also indicate potential benefits for hormonal balance — particularly testosterone levels — in older adults, which some researchers have linked to reduced fatigue and improved physical condition, and a 2024 animal study found that the supplement appeared to consolidate wakefulness and deepen restorative sleep in healthy mice, though not in those with disrupted sleep regulation. The available evidence is largely drawn from reviews, pilot studies, and preclinical research rather than large-scale clinical trials, and at least one review found no significant improvement in exercise endurance performance, introducing some mixed findings into the overall picture. Overall, while the directional evidence leans supportive, the research base remains limited in scale and methodological rigor, and more well-designed human trials are needed before firm conclusions can be drawn.
