Seeds (General) for Nutritional Support

Preliminary evidence 25 studies

Research suggests that seeds and seed-bearing plants contribute meaningfully to nutritional support within broader dietary patterns, with one large prospective cohort study following nearly 365,000 European adults finding that diets emphasizing plant diversity — including legumes and seeds — were associated with reduced cardiovascular risk and lower environmental impact. The available evidence base, however, is composed primarily of observational, genomic, and ecological studies rather than controlled trials specifically isolating seeds as a nutritional intervention, which limits the strength of conclusions that can be drawn about seeds independently from overall dietary patterns. Studies indicate that seed-rich legumes such as lablab show promise for food security in vulnerable regions, and home food procurement research suggests that seed-based foods are associated with meaningful dietary differences at the population level, though these findings reflect correlational relationships rather than demonstrated cause and effect. Overall, the body of evidence here is indirect and methodologically heterogeneous, and while it generally supports a favorable view of seeds as part of a nutritionally adequate, plant-forward diet, dedicated clinical research specifically examining seeds for nutritional support is notably limited in this collection.
