Salmon for Nutritional Support

Preliminary evidence 17 studies

Research suggests that the available studies linked here provide very limited direct evidence regarding salmon as a nutritional support tool for humans. The most relevant finding comes from a 2017 observational study of oiled seabirds, which found that a moderate-fat salmon oil diet improved energy digestibility compared to higher-fat formulations, though this research was conducted in wild birds recovering from oil exposure and cannot be straightforwardly applied to human nutrition. Several other studies touch on salmon biology — including research on salmon stress responses, maturation genes, and sea lice resistance — but these investigate salmon as a subject of aquaculture and ecological science rather than as a dietary source for human health. The remaining studies in this collection address topics such as bone remodeling, poultry gut microbiota, yeast metabolism, fruit fly aging, and fat tissue genetics, none of which examine salmon consumption directly, meaning this particular set of literature does not meaningfully support conclusions about the nutritional value of eating salmon for humans.
