Safed Musli for Libido And Sexual Function

Preliminary evidence 13 studies

Research suggests that Chlorophytum borivilianum (Safed Musli) may support male sexual function and reproductive health, with a body of preclinical animal studies consistently reporting improvements in libido, penile erection, sperm count, sperm motility, and testosterone levels across a range of experimental models including normal, diabetic, and toxin-exposed animals. Studies indicate that proposed mechanisms include nitric oxide release, antioxidant activity, and support for androgenesis and spermatogenesis, with at least one clinical trial in healthy adult males also reporting improvements in semen parameters and testosterone levels. The overall direction of the available evidence is supportive of traditional Ayurvedic claims, and a 2013 review noted that modern pharmacological findings broadly align with its historical use as an aphrodisiac and male tonic. However, the evidence base is heavily weighted toward animal studies, the single identified human clinical trial was conducted in healthy males without a placebo control clearly described, and independent large-scale randomized controlled trials in humans are lacking, which limits the strength of conclusions that can be drawn.
