Resveratrol for Antioxidant Support

Preliminary evidence 7 studies

Research suggests that resveratrol has demonstrated antioxidant and related biological activity across several preclinical and exploratory study designs, though the available evidence remains preliminary and largely indirect. Studies indicate that resveratrol has shown the ability to reduce viral replication in cell culture models, and antioxidant compounds broadly similar to resveratrol have demonstrated potential in partially reversing oxidative stress-related cellular dysfunction in laboratory models of neurological disease and in animal models of Parkinson's disease. The body of evidence reviewed here consists primarily of in vitro cell studies, animal studies, computational analyses, and one small retrospective observational study — none of which are randomized controlled trials, and none of which establish causation or confirm effects in healthy humans seeking general antioxidant support. Taken together, while the mechanistic rationale for resveratrol's antioxidant properties has some laboratory-level support, the current research is insufficient to draw firm conclusions about its effectiveness for antioxidant support in people, and further well-designed human clinical trials would be needed to meaningfully evaluate that question.
