Studies indicate that histidine also appears among the metabolites that differ between rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis when joint fluid is analyzed directly, pointing to its relevance in distinguishing inflammatory from degenerative joint conditions. However, the available evidence is largely observational and diagnostic in nature — focused on identifying histidine as a potential biomarker rather than testing it as a therapeutic intervention for joint pain — and the one clinical study included here examined a sulphasalazine derivative rather than histidine directly.
