Chyawanprash for Immune Function

Preliminary evidence 11 studies

Research suggests that Chyawanprash (CP) demonstrates consistent immunomodulatory activity across a range of preclinical study designs, including in vitro cell studies showing stimulation of dendritic cells, macrophages, and NK cells, animal models documenting cytokine regulation and anti-inflammatory effects, and an immunosuppression model in which CP was used as a standard immunostimulatory comparator. Studies indicate some clinically relevant signals as well, including an RCT in children reporting roughly twofold protection from immunity-related illness and an observational study suggesting improved immunoglobulin levels in tuberculosis patients receiving CP as adjunct therapy. The body of evidence is supported by a 2017 review documenting clinical evidence for CP as an immunity enhancer and a 2023 systematic review protocol prioritizing immunity biomarkers as primary outcomes, indicating that more rigorous evaluation is underway. However, a 2022 review of existing human clinical trial evidence found that despite CP's widespread traditional use and popularity, the overall evidence base from well-controlled human trials remains limited, and significant research gaps have yet to be addressed, meaning conclusions about its immune benefits in humans should be drawn cautiously at this stage.
