A 2025 systematic review of eight pediatric studies found the overall evidence too inconsistent and methodologically varied to draw firm conclusions, and a small feasibility trial in children with Crohn's disease found no clear symptom benefit over placebo, reflecting the mixed picture that remains across different populations and health conditions. The body of evidence is still largely composed of animal models and preliminary human studies with small sample sizes and heterogeneous designs, meaning that while the biological rationale is well-supported and early findings are encouraging, larger and more standardized human clinical trials are needed before definitive conclusions can be drawn.
