Bhringraj for Cognitive Function

Preliminary evidence 12 studies

Research suggests that Bhringraj (Eclipta alba/prostrata) may support cognitive function and memory, with the available evidence drawing entirely from preclinical animal studies and computational or review analyses rather than human clinical trials. Studies indicate that the herb and its isolated compounds, particularly Eclalbasaponin II and wedelolactone, appear to act through multiple mechanisms including inhibition of acetylcholinesterase, modulation of Akt-GSK-3β signaling, reduction of oxidative stress, and increased brain acetylcholine levels, with benefits observed in models of scopolamine-induced impairment, aging, and diabetes. Several network pharmacology and in silico studies additionally identify Eclipta phytochemicals as binding to targets relevant to Alzheimer's disease pathology, lending further mechanistic plausibility. However, the complete absence of human clinical trial data represents a significant limitation, and while the preclinical and computational findings are consistently supportive in direction, they cannot be taken as direct evidence of cognitive benefit in humans.
