Research suggests that apple and apple-derived products, particularly apple cider vinegar, show modest promise for supporting weight management outcomes. A 2025 meta-analysis pooling data from 10 randomized controlled trials found statistically significant reductions in body weight, BMI, and waist circumference associated with apple cider vinegar consumption, and a 2024 randomized controlled trial in adolescents and young adults with overweight or obesity reported similar findings across multiple metabolic markers. A 2011 review of the broader scientific literature on apples and their phytochemicals also identified weight management among several potential health benefits associated with apple consumption, suggesting whole fruit compounds may play a contributing role. However, the overall body of evidence carries important caveats: the meta-analysis authors flagged moderate-to-high statistical heterogeneity across studies, multiple linked publications appear to raise methodological concerns about the reliability and potential exaggeration of reported effects in apple cider vinegar research specifically, and the number of well-designed trials remains relatively small, meaning these findings should be interpreted with caution until larger and more diverse studies are available.
